If You Loved These Christmas Movies, You Should Read These Books

There’s something magical about immersing yourself in stories that celebrate the season, whether they’re on the screen or the page. I’ve paired some of my favorite Christmas movies with books that capture their spirit. So grab a blanket, pour yourself a mug of something warm, and let’s dive in.

1. If You Loved Home Alone...

You know that feeling of pure chaos mixed with heartwarming holiday magic? That’s Home Alone for me, and it’s the same vibe I get from The Vanderbeekers of 141st Street by Karina Yan Glaser. It’s about a quirky group of siblings trying to save their home, and it has all the cleverness and charm of Kevin McCallister setting booby traps for the Wet Bandits

2. If You Loved Love Actually...

Ah, Love Actually. The movie that makes me cry (every single time) and reminds me of how messy and beautiful love can be. If you’re looking for a book that captures those same intertwining love stories, you have to read One Day in December by Josie Silver. It’s romantic, heart-wrenching, and full of “what if?” moments that will make you swoon.

3. If You Loved Elf...

There’s no movie quite as joyful as Elf, and I can’t help but think of Dash & Lily's Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan as the perfect book match. Set in New York City during Christmas, it’s about two teens leaving each other notes in a notebook and falling for each other through their dares. It’s playful, whimsical, and brimming with holiday cheer.

4. If You Loved The Polar Express...

The magic of The Polar Express always gives me chills. If you’re looking for a book that captures that same sense of wonder, try The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. It’s not a Christmas book, but its enchanting atmosphere and magical storytelling feel just as otherworldly as a train ride to the North Pole.

5.If You Loved A Christmas Carol...

Is it even Christmas without A Christmas Carol? If you’re as fascinated by Scrooge’s redemption story as I am, you’ll love Mr. Dickens and His Carol by Samantha Silva. It’s a fictionalized account of how Charles Dickens wrote his famous holiday tale, and it’s just as heartwarming as the story it celebrates.

6. If You Loved The Holiday...

I rewatch The Holiday every year for its cozy cottages, swoon-worthy romance, and the idea of starting fresh in a new place. If that resonates with you, pick up The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling. It’s a quirky romance set in a charming small town, complete with a bit of magical chaos.
